For many generations, the area now known as Karameikos has been the home of the Traldaran people.  About 30 year ago, however, Stefan Karameikos, at the head of a force of minor Thyatian nobles, conquered the territory and proclaimed it a Grand Duchy.  There are still some tensions in the area over the bloodshed during that period, but the nation is mostly fairly peaceful.

Significant locations within the Grand Duchy include:

The Black Eagle Barony

Controlled by the Grand Duke's cousin, this area suffers from great cruelty and oppression.  Convincing the Grand Duke of his cousin's foul nature has proven extremely difficult - this is apparently a blind spot for Duke Stefan, who has otherwise proven a wise and responsible ruler.

Specularum

The capital of the Grand Duchy, its largest city and port.  Specularum lies on the southern coast of the Duchy.

Threshold

The northern-most city of any consequence within the Duchy.  Further travel finds only keeps and small towns until one reaches the Darokin Border.

The Keep on the Borderlands

A run-down keep north of Threshold, currently without a lord, as the last ruler died without an heir.
